Prairieland Food Is A Discount Food Program For Volunteers.

Kansas - Nebraska - Oklahoma

Prairieland Food is a purchasing consortium, non-profit organization (not government or state funded!) that helps feed families, the elderly, students and anyone who may need a break on food prices from what their local grocery stores charge. About a 50% savings overall each month on healthy, nutritious foods.

Purchasing multiple Prairie Paks and Special discounted food packages, families can really save each month on some otherwise high dollar foods. Prairieland Food accepts SNAP (food stamps) as well as other payment types.

IF YOU are located in Kansas, Nebraska or Oklahoma, think about starting a PLF host site near you. You’ll not only save money for your family but for your neighbors too. And you’ll help build a stronger community!

If you have volunteers in your group, club, troop, church, or organization, they can benefit from their volunteer efforts with discount food packages!

November Prairie Land Food Package Menus are UP and ready to view.

Morning Folks.

It's not too early to be thinking what to order for November. And it will be easy to grocery shop at your local venue as the package menu's are already set for November 2010.

As always it IS fun to prepare for the big family meals. Although October still has to show us some fall weather in Kansas, and Halloween is still a week away, the Prairie Land Food folks have been busy arranging our Thanksgiving menu so we can rest easy knowing a lot of the shopping is already done.

Because the gold foil turkey breasts have been so popular in past years, there is a "Holiday Dinner Pak" that includes this item, separate from the regular Prairie Pak. With the holidays coming upon us, Prairie Land Food is always prepared with the food we love, need and want.

My order for October is sitting on the front porch so I'd better get out there and get that food brought in and put away. Thanks to the great volunteers at our local PLF site, our food packages are delivered to us. The discount food program offered is truly a dream come true for our household.

Howdy Folks!

I've been blogging in other places for Prairie Land Food since last year! The Derby KS website however (http://www.prairielandfoodderby.com) is getting a face lift and I am now attaching this blog to the website. Hold ON! It's still in redevelopment, but the basic information is available on that ONE page.

Since October 2010 ordering time is past I will not blog that information here but WILL begin blogging here next month again to announce the menus and any changes if necessary.

Derby KS residents can still enjoy the same great service and crew as always. Physical changes, in the real world are much different than webdom changes and updates.

Howdy Folks.

Mother’s Day, Graduations, Memorial Day—all times for family gatherings and that means times for good food! The May Prairie Pak can come to your rescue with great food at a great price—only $23.50 (at the Derby KS host site) plus two hours of volunteer service to your community, church, school, scout troop, 4-H Club, or neighbors, wherever you can lend a helping hand without being paid for it.

This month the box is expected to include:

Boneless Pork Chops 1 lb (Four/4 oz chops)
F/C Chicken Breast Strips
1 lb; Deli Sliced Ham
12 oz; Beef Sirloin Tips
12 oz; Pulled Pork & Provolone Stuffed Sandwich Wraps 20 oz
and another Meat Item
plus a variety of six to eight fresh fruits and vegetables.

Note: Due to market conditions, items are subject to change.

The purchase of a regular Prairie Pak entitles one to purchase a...

Meat Only Package for only $13 plus one additional hour of service (all the meat items listed above in the Prairie Pak) and/or a
Fruit and Veggie Pak for only $11 plus one additional hour of service (includes all non meat items in the Prairie Pak).

Prairie Land Food Program In Derby, KS

Hi-Dee-Ho Folks.

Rain, rain and more friggin' rain. It's spring in Kansas alright. The flowers are starting to put on a great show however in my yard, the dandelions are outshining the lawn. Too Bad, so sad. LOL

I love the spring but with the rain sometimes, the grass does not get mowed as soon as it should. Oh well, we survive, don't we?

Once again I'm here to tout that your volunteer hours can bring payment in the way of saved dollars on your grocery bill each month. The Prairie Land Food Program allows you to turn in those hours in exchange for food packages called "Prairie Packs." There are about 6 meats, several fresh vegetables, several fresh fruits, sometimes some packaged surprises and one dessert item (usually). We always get two of these packs (at least) and some of the specials so we have meat for the month in the freezer. Savings around 40% to 50% on the items is a great way to have more to spend elsewhere.

We've eaten the fresh broccoli we received and the pulled pork. Time to bake up some of the chicken that came. I use the leg packages to make chicken 'n' noodles for The Russter (I have to be on a glutton free diet [sicko here], but I sometimes cheat) but he can enjoy the oodles of noodles and I can still have some of the chicken with my greens.

It's nice to have the dough to go out to eat once in awhile and saving on our monthly food bill helps us do exactly that!

Keep your feet dry, if you can but think about saving with our food program!

Smile, it'll only rain for about another month...

Save Money On Groceries In Derby, KS

Hiya Folks.

OK, so today I'm looking to see if I can get listed in the BIG GOO with "save money on groceries in Derby, KS." It's a long shot but if it works it might pay off for the Prairie Land Food Program we are so proud of here in Derby.

I made a huge mistake this last time when I ordered and should have ordered that prime rib roast again! We love that one and now are OUT. I'll have to make sure I have room in the freezer and hope that special pops up again soon.

Keep your fingers crossed for me. That roast is one of our favorites.

Save Money On Your Grocery Bill

Hi-Dee-Ho Folks.

Raining again in southern Kansas. It is that time of year, you know. We had a new roof put on last summer but have a leak already! I guess we will start the phone calling today to see what can be done to get that rectified. I'm sure the roofing company will come to our aid with no charge but you really never know for sure what guarantees you have. It seems more money goes out than you can ever count on.

Everyone these days is looking to save money in any way possible. Putting as much as they can "back for a rainy day." If you live in Kansas, Northern Oklahoma or Southern Nebraska you have a great chance to save on your grocery bill each month and either help build your nest egg or buy more and better foods for your family with those savings.

The Prairie Land Food program is designed to help families who need a boost by way of cutting food costs at a crucial time for Americans. All it takes is a little time each month, volunteered to help others or your community and you can save between 40% and 50% on some food items.

It is so easy, we've taken to enjoying the volunteer time as much as the savings. For every two hours of volunteer service we put in, we can buy around $40 to $50 dollars worth of groceries for $23.50 in Derby, KS. The amount paid is slightly different for different locations but we're talking a dollar or two, not five to ten dollars. For seniors, for families with several small children or anyone who needs to save on groceries their program is just the kick in the pants to get us moving! Your volunteer hours are worth a lot when you turn them into $$$ saved on groceries.

This month we redesigned a new web site for the local host site of Prairie Land Food and since my volunteer hours are as secretary for our Derby chapter too, we feel we are "giving back" and believe me, that makes us feel good. The economical nutritious foods add to our bottom line in savings each month too.

One of the meats in the April pack, the pulled pork is one of our favorites. We make sandwiches with bar-b-cue sauce or toss this meat into a casserole dish with onions, potatoes, carrots and cheese for a mouth watering treat. Very delicious! I have some great recipes for pulled pork and one of the best is using it in an omelette to replace sausage or ham.

We enjoy the food and the folks we've met through the Prairie Land Food program and hope to for many more years to come. This new blog is part of MY volunteer hours to qualify, by spreading the word about this great food program!

Save On Groceries with The Prairie Land Food Program

Hello Folks.

It's a rainy day here in Derby, KS. Yesterday was better for several reasons. First, it didn't storm and rain the whole day! LOL Second, it was delivery day for the Prairie Land Food Program grocery packs, called "prairie packs."

The April 2009 "Prairie Pak" consisted of:

All Beef Hot Dogs
1 LB Lean Boneless Pork Roast
1 1/2 LBSLean Ground Beef (85 /15)
1 LBDeli Turkey Breast
12 OZ Pulled Pork in BBQ Sauce
20 OZTurkey Breakfast Sausage
1 LB Broccoli
Celery
Potatoes
3 LBS Onions
2 LBS Granny Smith Apples
5 Valencia Oranges
5 Dole Fruit Parfaits (Peach & Apple) - 4 / ea 7 OZ)

All the above foods for $23.50 for the first prairie pack and $23.00 for each pack added after the initial purchase. We always buy two prairie packs and that leaves only bread, milk, eggs, etc to purchase from the grocery store during about a two to three week period and sometimes for the whole month. Of course, there are only two people in our household and we always buy some of the specials too, to keep us in meat for a month.

The "Specials" for April were:

Special #1: "RIB O' RAMA" - $13.00
3 Pounds - Lean Tender F/C Pork Ribs in BBQ Sauce by TYSON

Special #2: "THE GOURMET CHEF SPECIAL” - $16.00
An assortment of "8" Gourmet Entree's (each individually wrapped) (Suggested retail - $50.00)

Special #3: "THE PRIME RIB" - $18.00
A beautiful 5 to 6 LB. super lean / boneless USDA Prime Beef Ribeye Roast - Only $3.60 per lb. (Suggested retail - $9.99 a lb)

Although the specials change from month to month, some stay around for awhile. Like the #3 Ribeye Roast. We have purchased these in muliples in the past and still had one in the freezer for this month. SO, for April we purchased the #2. I thought these would made nice lunches for Russ and I was right. He had one today and loved it!

We do have to buy additional vegetables and fruits elsewhere but participating in the The Prairie Land Food Program saves us an enormous amount of money on our grocery bill each month.
